BY NKECHI NAECHE-ESEZOBOR–Cornerstone Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of Cornerstone Insurance Plc, on Tuesday joined the rest of the world to celebrate International Women’s Day by donating to underprivileged women through CBA Foundation Initiative.
As an institution that cares about the promotion of health and safety, inclusive and quality education and inclusive partnership, Cornerstone Foundation commemorated this special day, by donating to CBA Foundation Initiative.
Speaking at the event, Head Marketing and Corporate Communications, Cordelia Ekeocha, said the Foundation felt the need to support under privileged women through the CBA Foundation initiative.
She said “Today being International Women’s Day, we asked ourselves what can we do to support women. We know widows are forgotten and on a day like this we believe we can help them to go into the labour market. Most of these widows are left with their children to care for and we know that when we empower the mother this will make an impact on the children.”
She added that Cornerstone Foundation through CBA Foundation Initiative will empower women with education, skill acquisition, support them in their various businesses and provide them with necessary skills to improve their business.
She noted that Cornerstone Foundation will continue to work with other agencies across the country to reach underprivileged.
While appreciating the Foundation on behalf of the Board and Management of CBA Foundation Initiative, Chinwe Bode-Akinwande, commended the foundation for coming to their aid, noting that the foundation was established in 2015 to give hope and support “underprivileged” widows and children.
She said the support from the Cornerstone will go a long way to further improve the welfare of underprivileged.
According to her many women are now more independent and able to fend for their family.
She said widows suffer a huge loss, but they have to continue to support themselves and their children.
Over the years, with the support of donors CBA Foundation Initiative has been able reached out at widows in Ogun, Ondo and Anambra States.
