PRESS RELEASE–Underwriters in the West African subregion are poised to square up with their global counterparts to enable them to play as global brands, Chairperson of the Local Organizing Committee of the forthcoming West African Insurance Association (WAICA) Education Conference, Mrs. Bola Odukale made this assertion while addressing members of the Committee during the inaugural meeting where she unfolded plans to host the three-day international Conference.

The 2023 WAICA Educational Conference with the theme: Repositioning the Insurance Industry in West Africa for Global Competitiveness” will take place from 7 – 9 May 2023 at Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

According to Mrs Odukale who doubles as the deputy chairman of the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA), “the sub regional body has decided to address the issue of rating at this time because the insurance industry as a critical player in the economy should be able to compete globally and rating agencies help to access the strength and global competitiveness of insurance companies”.

The three-day educational Conference will feature papers by A.M Best, a globally acclaimed rating agency and other international scholars of repute.

According to the programme of events released by the Secretary General of the West African Insurance Companies Association (WAICA), Mr. William Coker, the occasion will also mark the 50th anniversary of the subregional body.
