BY NKECHI NAECHE-ESEZOBOR—-Professional Insurance Ladies Association, (PILA), will be marking its 50th anniversary celebration with a book launch titled Modern Insurance Practice, a textbook for tertiary institutions television on Tuesday, 21st, June 2023 at Oriental Hotels, Victoria Island Lagos.
Tuesday 29th May 1973, marks the exact 50th anniversary of the PILA.
PILA is a leading professional association that promotes gender equality and empowers women in the insurance industry in Nigeria. PILA strives to provide a supportive network, professional development opportunities, and advocacy platforms for women working in various insurance industry sectors.
The President of PILA, Lady Nkechi Margaret Moore, announced activities for the celebration of its 50th anniversary, during a media briefing held yesterday at PILA’s HOUSE, Iwaya, Yaba, Lagos.
She highlighted some of PILA’s significant accomplishments, such as organizing professional development programs, mentorship, insurance awareness initiatives/career talks to schools, and networking opportunities.
She emphasized that PILA’s primary focus has been empowering women to excel in the insurance industry by offering training, capacity-building workshops, and platforms for knowledge sharing and networking.
She said PILA has been instrumental in encouraging the establishment of Women In Insurance Associations in African countries visited during their bi-nnual International exchange programmes. These include Ghana, Kenya and PILA Algeria.
She added that PILA also championed the establishment of the African Insurance Women’s Association (AIWA) which was admitted as a member of the African Insurance Organisation (AIO) and inaugurated at a side event during the just concluded 49th AIO Conference which in Algiers, Algeria.
To celebrate the milestone activities lined up for this epochal event, the Chairperon of the programme committee, Adeyinka Adekoya, listed Ju’mat Service; Insurance Awareness walk; Symposium/ Webinar themed – Leadership and Sustainability: System Thinkers in Action, as some of the activities lined up for the event.
Others are: book launch, Award/Gala Night and Thanksgiving Mass will be held at the Catholic Church of the Assumption, Falomo, Ikoyi, as some of the activities lined up for the Anniversary.
Also past President of PILA and former Presidential of Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, (CIIN), Mrs Oluseyi Ifaturoti, noted that PILA’s 50th-anniversary celebration is a testament to the dedication of its members and their commitment to transforming the insurance industry despite the challenges confronted by women in the industry.
She said the press conference served as a platform to reflect on PILA’s remarkable achievements, recognize the contributions of its members, supporters, stakeholders, and outline the association’s future objectives.
She therefore, called on women in the industry to join hands with the Association to build a better industry.
The event which expected to kickoff this Friday with Ju’mat service will feature stakeholders in the insurance and financial sectors of the economy, industry leaders, policymakers, and the media, to join PILA in these celebrations and contribute to shaping a brighter future for women in the insurance sector.
