The  Executive Chairman of Edo State Internal Revenue Service, Barrister Oladele Bankole-Balogun has sought the support and collaboration of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in tackling tax evasion in the state.

He made the appeal on Tuesday February 11, 2025 when he led the top management team of the Service on a courtesy visit to the Benin Zonal Directorate of the EFCC.

“Your organisation is one of the highly respected organisations in the dispensation of justice and fairness. It is no coincidence that I’m here with my executive directors. We have a mandate to collect taxes for the state, whether personal or corporate. As we do that, we realize that there are those errant individuals or corporations who are doing far below what they should be doing. Some of them are in the realm of sabotage or financial crimes,” he said.

Bankole-Balogun stated that he realized upon assumption of office that collaborating with the Commission was imperative in the Service’s efforts at achieving its mandate of tax collection as collaborating with the Commission will help ensure tax compliance in in the state.

In his response, the Acting Zonal Director, ACE I, Effa Okim promised the delegation of the Commission’s collaboration in helping the Edo State Internal Revenue Service attain its mandate, noting that the Commission plays active roles in ensuring tax payment and in bringing tax evaders to justice.
