Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo Mourn Diogo Jota, Brother’s Death In Spain Car Crash

The Portuguese Football Federation and Portugal football icon Christiano Ronald have reacted to the death of Liverpool star, Diogo Jota and his brother, Andrè Silva, reportsBusiness TodayNG.

The Portuguese Federation President confirmed that a minute’s silence will be observed during Portugal’s women’s European Championship against Spain on Thursday, July 3, 2025

BusinessTodayNG reported that Jota, died in a car accident in Spain as the 28-year-old was travelling in the vehicle with his brother, Andre in the early hours of Thursday, 3 July, 2025.

It was gathered that the car went off the road on the A-52 in the province of Zamora, Spain.

A statement by the Portuguese Football Federation president read, (via BBC Sport): “The Portuguese Football Federation and all of Portuguese football are completely devastated by the death of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, this early morning, in Spain.

“Much more than an amazing player, with almost 50 international appearances for the national team, Diogo Jota was an extraordinary person, someone with an infectious joy and a reference in the community itself.

“I express my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Diogo and Andre Silva, as well as Liverpool FC and FC Penafiel, the clubs where, respectively, they played their football.”

In his own reaction, Portugal captain, Ronaldo,said Jota’s death “doesn’t make sense”.

“Doesn’t make any sense. Just now we were together in the National Team, just now you were married.”

“To your family, to your wife and children, I send my condolences and wish them all the strength in the world.

“I know you will always be with them. R.I.P. Diogo and Andre. We will all miss you,” Ronaldo wrote on social media.

Ronaldo and Jota both won the UEFA Nations League together only last month.
