The Super Falcons of Nigeria  kick-started their 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON, campaign on a good note by beaten  Tunisian female national team  3-0 on Sunday, 6 July, 2025, reports Business Today NG.

Nigerian forward Asisat Oshoala scored the first goal through Omorinsola Babajide’s superb cross in the fourth minute.

Justine Madugu’s  tutored  side were in control of  the match throughout the duration of the soccer encounter, with goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie on holiday.

After Deborah Abiodun came close to scoring in the  five minutes before the break, weaving past the Tunisian defence but failing to beat the goalkeeper, Babajide made it 2-0 with  a beautiful goal on the tail of half-time. Few minutes later, a goal scored by Nigerian defender Ashleigh Plumptre was disallowed for a foul in the build-up to the goal.

At the start of the second half  the head coach brought in Chiwendu Ihezuo, Christy Ucheibe, and Esther Okoronkwo for Oshoala, Abiodun, and Babajide.

With the introduction of these players, the Super Falcons had upper hands with Plumptre and Osinachi Ohale both coming close to increasing the goal.

However, substitute Chiwendu Ihezuo added the third goal six minutes from time to sealed the victory

The nine-time African champions will face Botswana in their next group fixture on Wednesday, 8 July, 2025.
