After Visually Impaired Persons Stage Protest At Lagos Airport, FAAN Issues Travel Advisory For Air Travellers

Following protests staged by visually impaired persons, causing traffic congestion on access roads to the Lagos airport, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on Monday, 11 August, 2025 issued a travel advisory for passengers travelling to and from Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA) in Lagos, reports Business Today NG.
FAAN issued the advisory through a statement issued on Monday, 11 August, 2025
“This is a Travel Advisory for passengers and commuters to/from Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos,” the statement reads.

“Due to an ongoing protest by the Farmcraft Centre for the Blind, traffic congestion is currently impacting access roads to the airport.
“To minimise disruptions, we advise passengers should: Check traffic updates before departing for the airport. Confirm flight status with your airline for any schedule changes. Use alternative routes where possible to avoid heavily congested areas.”
FAAN apologised for any inconvenience caused by the traffic congestion and appreciated passengers’ patience and understanding, urging them to travel safely and stay informed.
Recall that on Monday, 11 August, 2025, visually impaired protesters reportedly assembled around the airport area, creating a gridlock, forcing passengers to trek long distances to catch their flights.
The demonstrators said they were protesting the prolonged closure of their schools for over two years, claiming that repeated appeals to the government have gone unanswered.“Our school has been shut for over two years despite repeated appeals to the government,” the group’s spokesperson said.
According to the protesters, the government’s failure has denied them educational opportunities, forcing many disabled persons to resort to street begging.
It was gathered that major access roads to the MMA, the Lagos airport wing for local flights, have been blocked since about 11 am when the protest kick-started.
