The Yobe State Governor On Friday inaugurated a standing committee on tree planting and environmental hazards with aim to target 40 million tree seedlings in the new campaign in set to launch in the state.
The committee, chaired by Deputy Governor Alhaji Idi Gubana, and it is expected to commence its assignment within one week to take advantage on the August planting season.
“The committee will form sub-groups for site identification, land clearing, and ploughing, as well as sub-committees for treating and distributing approximately 50,000 seedlings already secured for the campaign. The committee must commence its assignment within one week to capitalise on the August planting season.” Buni said.
Members of thecommittee includes key stakeholders from government and civil society, such as: Chairman – Alhaji Idi Barde Gubana, Deputy Governor, Voice chairman – Hon. Sidi Yakubu Karasuwa, Commissioner of the Environment.
Members of the committee are – Commissioner of Agriculture, Special Adviser on Environment, Special Adviser on Nigerian for Women Projects, Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport and Energy, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education, Program Manager of North East Arid Zone Development Program (NEAZDP), Project Coordinator ACReSAL, Liaison Officer on Environment, Director of Forestry, General Manager Yobe State Environmental Protection Agency (YOSEPA), Chairman of the Civil Society Organization, Mohammad Sulaiman Gimba, and Abdulkarim Mai Umar, to serve as the secretary of the committee.
