NSC backs Amusan, Brume-led Team Nigeria For Tokyo 2025+ Full List

The  National Sports Commission (NSC) has reaffirmed its support for 15-member team to 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo led by world record holder in the 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, and long jump star Ese Brume.

The event is scheduled from September 13 to 21.

NSC chief Bukola Olopade, who stated this in statement, urged the athletes to give their best and bring honour to the country.

Olopade, who said the commission and Nigerians were firmly behind the team, said: “From the beginning, the NSC chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, declared that Nigeria must get it right in athletics,This is a moment of pride. We trust our athletes to compete with determination and secure podium finishes. The commission will continue to support them and stand behind them as they fly our flag in Tokyo.”

Mr Olopade would be in Tokyo to provide frontline support to the team throughout the competition.

The duo of Amusan and Brume are joined by a mix of seasoned and emerging athletes competing in sprints, jumps, throws, and hurdles.

Nigeria aims to build on its 2022 World Championships success, where Amusan set a world record of 12.12 seconds in the 100m hurdles and won gold.

Brume also claimed silver in the women’s long jump at that event
