The fourth edition of Insurance Meets Tech (IMT 4.0), West Africa’s leading platform for advancing insurance innovation, policy dialogue, and operational efficiency, achieved record attendance of leading C-suite leaders as well as a sold-out participation in its youth segment of the conference. Held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Sheraton, Ikeja, the gathering brought together CEOs, regulators, innovators, creatives, and young professionals, reinforcing IMT’s position as the definitive meeting point for the industry.
Themed “Innovating for the New Trybe“, the 2025 edition positioned youth, technology, and trust at the centre of insurance’s next growth phase. It marked a defining moment for industry, as ideas and actions converged to set the tone for a trillion-dollar economy.
For the first time since IMT’s commencement, three primary industry institutional anchors, the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), and the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB), came together as institutional partners.
Global thought leadership was brought to the stage by Headline Speaker, Per Lagerström, a former McKinsey partner and founder of BehaviorTech. He challenged Nigerian insurers to rethink their models, emphasising the human element in innovation. “Insurance is not built on products alone; it is built on behaviour. If we do not understand how people earn, live, and dream, we cannot design solutions they will embrace. Technology gives us the tools, but human insight gives us the answers.”
The exhibition floor brought innovation to life with creative showcases of their products, solutions and propositions. SanlamAllianz, IMT 4.0’s Official Insurer, set the tone by taking to the stage to spotlight its ingenuity in its service offerings and how global standards can be adapted for the Nigerian market. Cornerstone General Insurance, the Official Innovation Partner, made a bold statement by arriving at the venue with a demonstration vehicle, highlighting its AI-powered car inspection product accessible through cutting-edge technology. CubeCover took the showcase notch higher when it used a drone to demonstrate its services on stage.
Bode Pedro, the Founder of Casava, the Official Digital Insurer, held an exclusive fireside chat with keynote speaker Per Lagerström. They explored the topic “Digitalizing Insurance: The Diagnostics,” discussing how digital platforms can enhance access and build trust within the industry. During the conversation, Pedro made a bold claim regarding the potential for Nigerian underwriters to dominate the African market.
Gold Sponsors Leadway Assurance, emPLE, and Enterprise Life Assurance Nigeria, along with Bronze sponsor Lasaco, showcased solutions specifically designed to meet market demands, highlighting the breadth and diversity of innovation within the sector. The vibrant atmosphere on the exhibition floor reinforced IMT’s reputation as a marketplace for ideas and a launchpad for practical solutions.
Adding neo-cultural and generational depth, IMT Redefined 2.0 returned with a sold-out crowd of young professionals with fresh energy. Anchored by Anastasia of Beat FM and Adeoluwa “Saga” Okusaga, the session bridged pop culture with underwriting. With guest panelists including social media influencers Adaora “Lumina” Mbelu, Pooja, Iyo Prosper, Abdulmalik Ashimi, and others, the conversations addressed real questions confronting young Nigerians.
Reflecting on the success of the event, Odion Aleobua, Convener of IMT and CEO of Modion Communications, reiterated the platform’s purpose:
“Four years ago, when we convened the very first Insurance Meets Tech, the vision was simple but daring: to create a platform where insurance would not only meet technology, but also embrace it, shape it, and utilise it to serve people better.
“That vision has become a movement. This year’s theme, “Innovating for the New Trybe”,– could not be more relevant because the tribe we are building for is not the same as before. This is the New Trybe, young, connected, entrepreneurial, and impatient for solutions that match their lifestyle. And if insurance is to matter to them, we must not only innovate but innovate with them.”
Odion called on insurance innovators to build distribution that meets people where they are: online, on mobile, at work, and even in their communities. He called on regulators to adopt regulations that protect them without stifling innovation.
IMT 4.0 closed on a resounding note, leaving no doubt about its place as West Africa’s foremost platform for insurance innovation. By bringing together regulators, operators, global thought leaders, and youth voices under one roof, the 2025 edition demonstrated that the conversations and collaborations forged at IMT are not only shaping dialogue but also charting the course for the industry’s future.
