Super Eagles of Nigeria on Friday evening kept their quest of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup alive, with a 2-1 win over Lesotho.
The Super Eagles arrived for the game in third place with 11 points, three behind South Africa and leaders Benin Republic.
Eric Chelle’s tutored side knew that only victory would keep them in the race, but in first stanza of the game, the team failed to register a goal despite their superiority
But resumption for the second stanza, Nigeria team put up the pressure on their opponents and they awarded a penalty, which captain William Troost-Ekong put into net.
Akor Adams, a first timer in the team scored the second goal, but a defensivefrailties allowed their allowed Lesotho pull one back.
With this victory, Nigeria will round off their qualifying series against Benin Republic next Tuesday in Uyo.
