Operatives of Bauchi State Police Command have impounded a vehicle carrying 387 blocks of suspected cannabis sativa following a road accident in Toro Local Government Area of the state.

The Bauchi State Police Commissioner, Sani Omolori-Aliyu, who confirmed the development while handing over the seized substance to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Friday, said the accident, involving two white Toyota Corollas, occurred on October 4 in Wom village.

According to Omolori-Aliyu, one of the vehicles with the registration number ABC-459LF, driven by one Ali Muhammad, 45, was transporting the district head of Nabardo, Suleiman Suleiman, 65, and his family from Bauchi metropolis to Nabardo village.

The state Police boss added that the other vehicle, with the registration number GWA-155GW, was driven by an unidentified person travelling from Jos, Plateau state, towards Bauchi.

While stating that preliminary investigations revealed that the driver attempted a risky overtaking manoeuvre, causing the collision, Omolori-Aliyu, added that occupants of both vehicles sustained injuries and were taken to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) for treatment.

The commissioner, who disclosed the district head suffered a fractured left leg and remains under care, added that following the crash, police recovered the suspected cannabis blocks from the damaged vehicle, adding that the command is actively pursuing the unidentified driver to ensure accountability.

The police commissioner called on the public to assist by providing information about the driver’s identity and assured that the police are committed to justice and maintaining peace.
“We invite anyone with information that could aid in this investigation to contact us and we assure citizens that we are resolutely focused on ensuring justice is achieved,” the state police boss said.
