Widows in Rigachikun, Kaduna State are presently in a joyous mood as the Federal Government on Wednesday handed handed over 100 energy-efficient two-bedroom homes with urban farming spaces to them, under the Family Homes Funds Limited Social Housing Programme.

The Presidency, which confirmed the development through a statement a post on its official X on Wednesday titled “Delivering Renewed Hope, One Home at a Time,” said the project reflects President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to inclusive development and empowerment of vulnerable citizens through sustainable housing.

The Chairman of the Family Homes Funds Limited, Demola Adebise, said “These homes represent far more than physical structures. They symbolise renewed hope and restored dignity, particularly for the 100 resilient women empowered through this initiative.”

According to Adebise, the development showcases “a new model of social housing delivery in Nigeria—one that integrates home ownership with skills training, livelihood support, and climate-smart construction.”

According to the statement, a notable aspect of the project is its origin story — the widows had pooled their land and approached the Federal Government through FHFL to construct affordable homes for them, a collaboration now rewarded with shelter, livelihood support, and a model for inclusive development.

The statement said each home was built using Expanded Polystyrene System technology, reducing construction costs and carbon emissions by up to 40 per cent. The houses are equipped with solar power systems, and beneficiaries also received livelihood training and cottage yards for food production and processing to promote food and income security.
Managing Director of FHFL, Abdulmuttalib Mukhtar, said the project demonstrates how inclusive collaboration can deliver measurable impact.
“This project stands as clear evidence that when citizens take initiative and government responds with support, transformation happens,” he said.

Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, said the initiative aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises inclusive growth and tangible impact.

“Through initiatives like this, we are ensuring that government spending translates into tangible outcomes — roofs over heads, jobs for our women and youth, and dignity for our people,” he stated.

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, described the project as a model of people-centred governance.

“Our administration is proud to host this first-of-its-kind energy-efficient social housing project for widows. It reflects Kaduna State’s commitment to inclusive growth and innovation,” he said.

The project, implemented in partnership with the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure and the Kaduna State Government, created over 500 jobs during construction and provided 100 new families with sustainable homes — embodying the essence of the Renewed Hope Agenda: turning policy into progress, and progress into opportunity.
