BY NKECHI NAECHE-ESEZOBOR-/The Recyclers Association of Nigeria (RAN) has called on the Federal Government and the National Assembly to prioritise a Minimum Plastic Recycling Content Policy and introduce tax incentives to support recycling companies and waste aggregators.
The appeal follows the resolutions of the Association’s 2025 Annual Conference and Exhibition themed “Recycling for Prosperity: Creating Jobs, Growing Economies.” RAN said the proposed policies would accelerate Nigeria’s transition to a circular economy, attract investment and expand green job opportunities.
Stakeholders at the conference noted key challenges facing the sector, including low recycling rates, multiple taxation, poor access to finance, technology gaps, and the limited formal recognition of informal waste collectors who play a major role in the value chain.
RAN emphasised that recycling has the potential to generate more than ₦100 billion annually if supported with the right policies, infrastructure and incentives. The Association also called for strengthened implementation of environmental laws and better alignment across government agencies.

Among its resolutions, RAN pledged to expand partnerships with development finance institutions, strengthen state-level engagement, promote public awareness on waste separation, and publish an annual State of Recycling in Nigeria report.
The Association reaffirms its dedication to building a future where waste management contributes directly to national prosperity. RAN believes that with the right policies particularly a Minimum Plastic Recycling Content requirement and tax incentives for recyclers, Nigeria can convert its waste challenge into a powerful source of employment, innovation, and climate resilience.
The Association urged policymakers, private investors and citizens to work together to harness the full economic and environmental benefits of recycling.
