The newly constituted Board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has held its maiden induction retreat in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to deliberate on the Commission’s strategic direction and regulatory priorities.

Led by the Board Chairman, Chief Idris Olorunnimbe, the retreat brought together Board members and the NCC Management team to reaffirm the Commission’s role as a catalyst for Nigeria’s digital economy.

The programme featured expert sessions on governance and regulation, including reviews of the Nigerian Communications Act, corporate governance principles and global regulatory best practices. The Commission said discussions were rigorous and focused on strengthening regulatory credibility and delivering better outcomes for the telecommunications industry, consumers and the digital economy.

Speaking at the event, Olorunnimbe described the retreat as the beginning of a shared responsibility aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He said the Board would safeguard the integrity and competitiveness of Nigeria’s telecoms ecosystem while enabling innovation, attracting investment and driving digital transformation.

He expressed confidence that the NCC would continue to function not only as a regulator but also as a catalyst for national development.
