The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has identified 2026 as a defining year for the telecommunications sector, placing improved Quality of Experience (QoE) for millions of subscribers at the top of its priorities.

In a New Year message, the Commission’s Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Aminu Maida, unveiled a strategic roadmap focused on ensuring consumers gain real value for their spending. He explained that the NCC’s 2026 agenda rests on three core pillars: reliability, affordability, and long-term market sustainability.

Driving Growth and Inclusion

Dr. Maida aligned the Commission’s vision with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to position Nigeria as a $1 trillion digital economy by 2030.

“Our collective expectation for the year ahead is clear and essential: improved quality of experience for consumers, supported by a fair, competitive, and sustainable market,” he said. According to Maida, consistent investment remains critical to expanding networks, spurring innovation, and enabling broader participation in Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.

2025: A Year of Measurable Progress

Looking back, the NCC chief described 2025 as a watershed year for the telecoms industry, marked by tangible achievements. These include:

  • Broadband Expansion: Subscriptions climbed to over 109 million.
  • Improved Speeds: Noticeable gains in median download speeds across networks
