The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is finalizing plans to launch an independent and comprehensive assessment of competition in the country’s telecommunications sector, barring any last-minute changes.
According to a statement by the Commission’s Head of Public Affairs, Nnenna Ukoha, the study is being conducted in line with Section 92 of the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA) 2003 and the Competition Practices Regulations (CPR) 2007.
The exercise, which will involve the appointment of a private consultant, is designed to provide an objective, evidence-based evaluation of competitive dynamics across Nigeria’s telecoms market.
“Findings from the study are expected to inform regulatory actions that strengthen fair competition, protect consumer interests, encourage investment, and advance Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda, supporting long-term industry sustainability,” the statement said.
The NCC noted that the consultant will not work in isolation. Key stakeholders—including licensed operators, industry associations, and consumer advocacy groups—will be consulted and encouraged to provide data, insights, and policy perspectives, ensuring a robust and inclusive analysis.
