The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested a 60-year-old man suspected of detonating an improvised explosive device (IED) on Wednesday at the State Secretariat Complex in Yenagoa.
The Commissioner of Police, Iyamah Daniel Edebor, immediately led the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, the Special Drone Unit, and other tactical teams to the scene following reports of the explosion.
On arrival, operatives swiftly secured the area, contained the situation, and cordoned off the complex. During a thorough search, another unexploded IED was discovered and safely defused. Police confirmed that no lives were lost and no property was damaged in the incident.
The suspect, identified as Pentecost Elijah from Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, was arrested at the scene. According to the police, he is currently undergoing interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Musa Mohammed, stated that the situation is under control and normalcy has been restored. He urged members of the public to remain calm and continue with their lawful activities.
