Police Arrest Village Head with Illegal AK-47 in Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a village head, Chief Edet, over alleged possession of an illegal AK-47 rifle in Asik Ubofa, a fishing settlement in Effiat Clan, Mbo Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, the arrest followed credible intelligence indicating that the 60-year-old traditional leader was in possession of a prohibited firearm. Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, ordered a swift and coordinated operation to verify the claim and take appropriate action.

Police operatives subsequently raided the suspect’s residence, where they recovered one AK-47 rifle along with two empty magazines.

The statement further noted that the suspect is currently in custody, while investigations are ongoing to trace the origin of the weapon, establish intent, and identify any accomplices who may be connected to the case.
