NIS Suspends Comptrollers Over Extortion Allegations at Lagos-Seme Border

The Nigeria Immigration Service has condemned allegations of extortion levelled against its personnel stationed along the Lagos-Seme Border corridor.

The agency of government in a statement posted via its official X account and signed by DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, Service Public Relations Officer, also disclosed that  Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, has temporarily relieved the Comptrollers in charge of the affected Commands of their duties 

She further directed a thorough investigation surrounding these incidents, in order to identify all officers involved, and ensure that appropriate disciplinary measures are applied with immediate effect.

The agency stated that the decision came after online reports alleged that certain officers were involved in extortion along the busy international corridor connecting Nigeria and the Benin Republic.

She reassure the general public, that the service remains committed to delivering professional, transparent, and efficient

services at all points of entry and exit. It will not condone any act that undermines public trust or tarnishes the integrity of the Service.
