BY SUNDAY SAMUEL—orenewed surge of xenophobic violence in South Africa, Senator Adams Oshiomhole has called on Nigeria’s Federal Government to take firm economic action in response.

He proposed strong countermeasures, including cancelling the operating licences of South African companies doing business in Nigeria.

Speaking during plenary, Oshiomhole argued that the country must move beyond sympathy and adopt a more forceful and strategic response.

Lawmakers in the House of Representatives also condemned the attacks and urged swift diplomatic efforts to protect Nigerians living abroad.

The senator framed the issue as both a security concern and an economic conflict requiring reciprocal action.

He specifically suggested that Nigeria should take over the local operations of MTN Group and revoke its licence.

Oshiomhole also recommended similar measures against MultiChoice, accusing both firms of moving large profits out of Nigeria.

He maintained that Nigerians in South Africa contribute positively to the economy and insisted that a strong response from Nigeria would discourage further hostility.
