BY NKECHI NAECHE- ESEZOBOR–Staff of African Alliance Insurance Plc have alleged plan by the newly appointed interim management, led by the Managing Director/ CEO, Mr. Jacob Erhabor to purchase 3 SUVs as official cars despite not been able to pay annuitants, BusinessTodayNG has learnt.

Some of the staff who spoke to BusinessTodayNG on the ground of anonymity, also said the interim management are clamoring for exorbitant salary from the already distressed company.

“The working condition is terrible’ said one of the staff. No electricity, no drinking water, no HMO, no pension, it’s almost like we are slaves”. This is the reason why the staff union embarked on a strike action to demand that these issues be resolved

NAICOM had in October last year sacked the Board and Management of African Alliance Insurance Plc, following years of financial difficulties and failure to meet the obligations of annuitants and policyholders.

The commission also went further to appoint interim board and management members include Dr Haruna Mustapha as Chairman, Mr Jacob Erhabor as MD/CEO, Mr Wasiu Amao as Executive Director (Technical), Ms Oremeyi Longe as Executive Director (Finance), Mr Anthony Achebe as Non-Executive Director, and Halimatu M. Khabeeb as Non-Executive Director.

However, all efforts to get African Alliance Insurance Plc to speak on the matter proved abortive. Calls put across to the company’s head of Corporate, Kelechi were neither answered nor returned.
