The scheduled National Convention of the main opposition party in nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) slated for November 15 and 16, 2025 in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, may not hold as Federal High Court sitting in Abuja presided over Justice Peter Lifu, on Tuesday again stopped party from holding the convention.

The convention is meant to elect new national officers to steer the affairs of the party.

Recall that Sule Lamido, a former Jigawa state governor, had, in an ex-parte motion moved by his lawyer, Jephthah Njikonye, SAN, prayed the court for an interim order stopping the planned convention, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
Justice Lifu, in a ruling on Tuesday, held that the application of the plaintiff has merit and succeeds.

Consequently, the judge restrained the PDP from convening its planned National Convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.

The court also restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from monitoring and recognizing the November 15 and 16 national conventions scheduled to hold on 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo state pending the hearing of the substantive suit filed by the plaintiff, which is pending before the court.

Justice Lifu said the plaintiff, who is a bonafide member of the party and has interest in the position of the national chairman of the party will suffer more if the prayers contained in the motion are not granted by the court.

The Justice said he has no reason to digress from the decision of Justice James Omotosho, also a judge of the Federal High Court, Abuja delivered on October 31, 2025, which halted the PDP’s national convention and restrained INEC from monitoring and recognizing the convention.
