Few days after the immediate past national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Party(APPC) resigned on health grounds, Umar Ganduje, The deputy national chairman (North) of the party, Ali Bukar Dalori, on Monday, June 30, 2025 assumed office as the party’s acting national chairman,reports BisinessTodayNG
Recall that President Bola Tinubu had directed Dalori to assume the position of acting national chairman of APC following Ganduje’s resignation.
Dalori is to hold sway as the party’s acting chairman pending the meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party to be in order to fill the vacancy created by Ganduje’s resignation.
The acting APC national chairman, on assumption of office on Monday, thereafter presided over the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting of the party.
Dalori said his appointment was not a personal victory but a responsibility he embraced with full awareness of the challenges ahead and the expectations of millions of APC members and supporters across the nation.
He said the transition was a period for consolidation, not conflict, not division and for vision, not personal ambition, and solicited the support of the NWC members.
The new acting chairman was born on June 16, 1962, in Dalori town, Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.
He grew from a humble background to build business and political empire, from the scratch, venturing from household goods to sale of exotic cars.
Dalori’s business which started in Lagos, was expanded to Cotonou’s auto trade route, where he rose to become a key player in the regional vehicle importation sector.
He was initially reluctant to go into politics, until his community propelled him into the political arena, by giving him overwhelming support.
In 1991, he was elected Councillor for Dalori Ward in Konduga Local Government Area and in 1992, he rose to the position of Chairman of Konduga Local Government, securing victory under the Social Democratic Party (SDP) during the Babangida transition programme.
In 2012, he became a Member of the Borno State House of Assembly under the ANPP.
He is said to have played a pivotal role in the formation of the APC in 2014,
He was elected chairman of the APC in Borno State, a position he held for 9 years.
In August 2023, he was appointed Deputy National Chairman (North) of the APC, overseeing party affairs in the 19 northern states.
