Benue Assembly Suspends Four Lawmakers For Allegedly Plotting Speaker’s Impeachment

Four lawmakers in the Benue State House of Assembly-Alfred Berger representing Makurdi North State Constituency, Cyril Ekong of Oju 2, Abu Umoru of Apa, and Shimawua Terna of Kyan State Constituency, were on Friday, 22August , 2025 suspended by the house for allegedly Pplanning impeachment moves against the Speaker of the House, Hyacinth Dajoh.

The Majority Leader, Saater Tiseer, who moved the motion for their suspension, alleged the quartet were attempting to cause chaos in the Assembly despite a recent vote of confidence passed in the Speaker and Governor Hyacinth Alia.
“On Wednesday, 20 August 2025, the house in the spirit of unity passed a vote of confidence in the House leadership and the Governor of Benue State.
“Concerned that barely three days after the House adopted resolutions on this matter on this cause, Hon. Alfred Aondoaver and three others went behind to mobilise other members to cause chaos in the House.”
The motion was adopted during plenary presided over by speaker Dajoh, leading to the suspension of the four lawmakers for six months.
Following the development the House also readjusted its leadership to include Mr. Kennedy Angbo who emerged the new Deputy Majority Leader, Douglas Akya got the position of Deputy Chief Whip, while Elias Audu takes over as the new spokesman of the House.
