Breaking: Pascal Dozie, Former Chairman Of MTN Nigeria Is Dead

BY OUR REPORTER— Pascal Gabriel Dozie, the former chairman of MTN Nigeria and founder of the defunct Diamond Bank is dead.

A statement issued by the family on Tuesday, the firmer Diamond bank boss died in the early hours of Tuesday at the age of 85.

According to statement released by his son, Uzoma Dozie, on behalf of his family thus read: “With deep sorrow, but with gratitude to God for a life well spent, we announce the passing of our beloved father, Pascal Gabriel Dozie, on 8th April 2025

“He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a man of unwavering Catholic faith. His life was marked by service–to God, his family, and his country.

“He is survived by his loving wife, Chinyere, his children, grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know him.

“We thank God for the gift of his life and the legacy he leaves behind.May his soul rest in perfect peace.”

Nigerian entrepreneur and businessman, Pascal Gabriel Dozie was born on April 9, 1939 in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria.

He is the founder of Diamond Bank and the chairman of Pan-Atlantic University. With a career spanning several decades, Dozie’s contributions to the business world, particularly in the financial sector, have earned him respect and recognition both locally and internationally.

In 1990, Pascal Dozie founded Diamond Bank, a financial institution that would go on to become one of Nigeria’s leading banks. His vision was to create a bank that focused on customer satisfaction, innovation, and financial inclusion. Under his leadership, Diamond Bank expanded its reach and services, becoming a key player in Nigeria’s banking sector.

He attended the London School of Economics, where he obtained a degree in Economics.

Dozie’s impact on the telecommunications industry is particularly noteworthy. He played a crucial role in the establishment of MTN Nigeria, one of the country’s largest and most successful telecommunications companies. His involvement in bringing mobile telecommunications to Nigeria has been instrumental in connecting millions of people and driving economic development.
