BUA Foods Plc is making significant strides with its Lafiagi Sugar Company Limited (LASUCO) in Kwara State, poised to become Nigeria’s largest fully integrated sugar production facility.

The project, currently about 80% complete, was recently showcased to the Honourable Minister of State for Industry, Dr. John Owan Enoh, alongside a delegation from the Nigerian Sugar Development Council (NSDC).

Spanning approximately 20,000 hectares, LASUCO is designed to process 10,000 tons of sugarcane per day, produce 220,000 metric tons of refined sugar annually, generate 35 megawatts of electricity, and process 20 million liters of industrial ethanol per year.

The facility also incorporates residential, healthcare, and educational infrastructure, reflecting BUA Foods’ commitment to industrialization, agricultural development, and community impact.

The visit underscored the Federal Government’s support for backward integration and Nigeria’s drive toward sugar self-sufficiency, while highlighting the company’s determination to accelerate construction and deliver a transformational outcome for the nation’s sugar sector.
