In line with the Nigerian Army’s (NA) commitment to civil-military intervention programs, the Commander 18 Brigade NA, Brigadier General Taiye Ahmed, yesterday l presented a cheque of Five Hundred Thousand Naira (₦500,000) only to Miss Binta Abubakar Yahaya.
She is a beneficiary of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Special Scholarship Scheme for Indigent Students for the year 2024. The presentation ceremony was held at the 18 Brigade Headquarters, Litani Barracks in Bida, Niger State.
During his remarks, Brigadier General Ahmed congratulated Miss Binta Abubakar Yahaya on her selection for the scholarship, recognizing her commitment and potential.
He highlighted that the COAS Special Scholarship Scheme is a significant initiative designed to provide financial support to deserving indigent students, particularly those pursuing tertiary education, enabling them to achieve their academic goals.
He further emphasized that the NA is a gender-inclusive institution that is committed to supporting both male and female students who demonstrate promise and dedication.
The Commander also underscored that the scholarship program reflects the NA’s broader commitment to community welfare, contributing to the upliftment of young Nigerians by ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent capable minds from realizing their potential.
A moment of silence was observed during the ceremony in honor of the late COAS, Lt Gen TA Lagbaja NAM, who was the originator of this scholarship initiative, demonstrating the Army’s enduring respect and remembrance for its fallen leader.
The event attracted a diverse gathering of dignitaries from the local community, including local authorities, traditional rulers, heads of security agencies, and members of the media.
Representatives of the Etsu Nupe and the Local Government Chairman, in their respective remarks, lauded the Nigerian Army for its impactful contributions to societal development and encouraged Miss Binta to continue excelling in her academic pursuits.
Miss Binta Abubakar Yahaya, an orphan from Bida Local Government Area and a student in the Department of Business Administration at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Niger State, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the NA for the scholarship.
She pledged to remain committed to her studies to honor the trust and opportunity given to her.
The highlights of the event included the presentation of the cheque to Miss Binta Abubakar Yahaya and the distribution of souvenirs to the invited guests.
