BY NKECHI NAECHE- ESEZOBOR—The Commissioner for Insurance, National Insurance Commission, NAICOM, Olusegun Ayo Omosehin , is leading Nigeria’s delegation to attend the 51st Conference and Annual General Assembly of the African Insurance Organization, (AIO), scheduled to hold from May 24 to May 28 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
BusinessTodayNG reports that the AIO Conference is a major annual event for the insurance industry in Africa, providing a platform for industry leaders, regulators, and stakeholders to discuss key issues, share best practices, and network. The conference, which is hosted by the AIO, aims to promote innovation, collaboration, and growth within the African insurance sector.

The gathering includes representatives from 59 countries bringing together insurance industry regulators in Africa, 405 members companies and over 1,500 delegates across Africa and key economic stakeholders to discuss pressing global insurance industry challenges.
About 160 Nigerian delegation are attending this year conference including Senior officials from NAICOM; Chairman of Insurance Companies; the Chief Executive Officers of insurance companies ; Directors of Insurance companies; Brokers; Loss Adjusters and representatives from the private sector, civil society organisations, and non-governmental organisations.
The theme for this year’s conference is “Balancing the books: Africa’s debt problem. Why does country debt impact insurers?”
The African Insurance Organisation (AIO), established in 1972, is a non-governmental organisation recognised by many African governments. Following the headquarters agreement the government of Cameroon signed with the organisation, the Permanent Secretariat of the AIO was set up in that country.
