Customs Impounds Sacks Of Gunpowder, Indian Hemp

Between August 26 and September 29, 2021, the Zone B unit of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) seized smuggled gunpowder, Indian Hemp, rice and other goods  

 Customs comptroller in the zone, Mr Al-Bashir Hamisu told Journalists in Kaduna on Thursday that duty payable on the smuggled goods is N312.228 million. 

The zone covers Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara, Niger, Kwara, Kano, Kebbi, Kogi and Sokoto states and the FCT. 

Hamisu said 75 seizures were made during the period. 

They included 15 vehicles and others used in conveying them, gunpowder, 112 parcels of cannabis, dangerous chemicals and 137 sacks of second-hand clothing. 

Also seized were 664 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 1,177 cartons of tomato paste, 228 cartons of spaghetti and Macaroni, 88 cartons of foreign Eva soap, 17 units of 25 litres of vegetable oil and 20 cartons of chocolate. 

Hamisu implored members of the public to partner with the Customs Service to combat smuggling by giving it information.
