The Department of State Services (DSS), has arrested a suspected gunrunner in Cross River State, recovering 832 rounds of live ammunition in a recent operation.
Operatives apprehended Kelvin Ebikeniye Dugo at Ivara Esu Estate in Odukpani Local Government Area after he received a consignment reportedly concealed in food items. The seizure also included two empty AK-47 magazines.
Security sources revealed that Dugo intended to purchase the weapons from another suspected gunrunner, Azenda Barnabas, also known as Jagaban, based in Aliade, Benue State. “The operatives intercepted Dugo moments after he received the consignment,” a DSS source said.
The arrest forms part of the DSS’s intensified nationwide efforts to dismantle gun-running syndicates, curb illegal arms proliferation, and ensure public safety. Officials noted that the pursuit of individuals involved in arms trafficking remains sustained and resolute across multiple states.
The suspect is currently in DSS custody, and investigations are ongoing to identify other networks involved in the illegal arms trade.
