BY GABRIEL MICHEAL—-Eight lawmakers in the House of Representatives have defected to new political platforms.
The shift was communicated via separate letters notifying the House of each member’s new political alignment, which were read out by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu as lawmakers returned to sitting after the Easter holiday.
During the session, members also held a moment of silence to pay tribute to a colleague from Kano State, Mohammed Hassan, who passed away in Abuja on April 10, 2026, after a short illness.
Among those who changed affiliation are Thaddeus Attah from Lagos, who left the Labour Party for the African Democratic Congress; Bashiru Usman from Kaduna, who exited the All Progressives Congress for the ADC; Abubakar Buba from Niger State, who moved from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC; and Sani Noma from Kebbi, who departed the PDP to join the ADC.
