The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development on Wednesday threatened t sanction contractors handling housing projects across the country for failure to deliver within a period based on the contractual agreement.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry Of Housing and development, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, handed down the warning in Abuja during a meeting with contractors handling various housing projects across the country.

According to Belgore, the ministry would take necessary steps against the contractors, which include the issuance of formal queries, recovery of mobilisation funds, forfeiture of guarantees, blacklisting, termination of contracts, and reporting to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.

While stating that the meeting was to ensure the timely delivery of housing projects across the country in line with contractual obligations, assured all performing contractors of prompt payment once due processes were completed, Belgore reiterated the ministry’s unwavering commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda of providing quality, affordable and accessible housing for Nigerians and emphasized that timely project delivery remains a non-negotiable priority.

Speaking at the meeting, the Director of Public Buildings, Pemi Temitope, expressed concern that some contractors, despite receiving mobilization funds since last year, had yet to apply for valuation of works, which was a standard contractual requirement that ensures proper project monitoring and delivery.
