BY NKECHI NAECHE- ESEZOBOR—Guinea Insurance Plc on Thursday announced to shareholders and the investing public that the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has granted its “No Objection” to the appointment of four new Non-Executive Directors (NEDs) to the Board of the Company, effective May 17, 2025.
These appointments according insurer disclosed this in notice to Nigerian Exchange Group, NGX, that the appointments follow the completion of the tenure of the following outgoing Directors who have served the Company meritoriously: Godson Ugochukwu, SAN (Board Chairman); Chukwuemeka Uzoukwu (Non-Executive Director); Alhaji Hassan Dantata (Non-Executive Director); Simon Oladayo Bolaji (Non-Executive Director); Anthony Achebe (Non-Executive Director) and Late Mohamed Atahir Tahir (Non-Executive Director), who passed away in February 2025.
The newly appointed Non-Executive Directors are:
Mr. Temitope Borishade – Chairman of the Board.
He is a Partner at Borishade & Co., a business consulting and advisory firm, where he leverages his deep expertise in accounting, finance, corporate strategy, governance, and business development—skills acquired over a distinguished career spanning multiple sectors. Prior to founding Borishade & Co., Mr. Borishade held several executive leadership roles, including Deputy Managing Director at Enugu Electricity Distribution Company and Managing Director at Global Scansystems Technology Limited. He began his professional journey at Deloitte, where he worked in assurance and advisory services, and later transitioned into investment banking with Zenith Capital.
He currently chairs the boards of Inland Containers Nigeria Limited and Kaduna Inland Dry Port Limited, and he previously served on the board of VFD Microfinance bank.
Borishade holds a B.Sc. in Accounting from Obafemi Awolowo University and an MBA from DePaul University, Chicago.
He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers, and a Member of the Institute of Directors. He has further honed his leadership capabilities through executive education at Harvard Business School, London Business School, and The Wharton School.
He is deeply passionate about building resilient organizations through principled leadership, strategic clarity, and a long-term commitment to value creation.
Mrs. Bernice Izilen Okosun – Non-Executive Director.
A distinguished lawyer, chartered insurer, and risk management expert with over 30 years of experience in the insurance, oil and gas, and financial services sectors. She previously served as General Manager, Risk Management & Claims at NNPC and was a Director on the Board of NNPC Captive Insurance Company, Guernsey, UK. She currently sits on the Boards of JRJ Excellence Academy and VICKIZY Nigeria Limited. She holds an LL.B from the University of Benin and was called to the
Nigerian Bar in 1989. She is also a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries and Administrators.
Mrs. Ijeoma Pearl Okoro- Non-Executive Director
An experienced executive with over 30 years in the insurance and development sectors. She is a Trustee of The Rotary Foundation and previously held leadership roles at Consolidated Hallmark Insurance Plc.
She also serves with the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation, focusing on partnerships and humanitarian services. She holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Management from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and completed the Advanced Management Program at Lagos Business School.
She is widely recognized for her strong leadership, creativity, and people management skills. Her dedication to service and excellence has earned her a respected reputation in both the corporate and philanthropic sectors.
Dr. Nkemakonam Chukwukaodinaka Okeke (Dr. Nkem Okeke)- Non- Executive Director
A respected technocrat, academic, and public servant with over three decades of multifaceted experience spanning engineering, economics, academia, andgovernance.
He holds a Ph.D. in Monetary Economics and an MBA in Management from Howard University, USA, as well as a B.Sc. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Okeke served two consecutive terms as the Deputy Governor of Anambra State from 2014 to 2022. Before his tenure in government, he built an impactful academic career at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, rising to Senior Lecturer and Acting Head of the Department of Economics. Dr. Okeke is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, a COREN-registered engineer, and an active member of the Nigerian Economic Society.
His unique blend of technical, academic, and administrative expertise has made him a respected voice in both the public and private sectors.
