The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has appealed to eligible residents to participate in the second phase of the ongoing Continous Voter Registration (CVR).

The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof Ayobami Salami, made the plea in a statement on Thursday by the commission’s Head of Voter Education and Publicity, Mr Taiwo Gbadegesin.

INEC rounded off the first phase of the nationwide exercise, which began Aug. 18, 2025, on Dec. 10, 2025.

Salami called on residents themselves of the 2nd phase of the CVR, which kicked off on Jan 5, across local government areas and INEC headquarters in the state.

The REC said: “We want to encourage more Lagosians to take advantage of this opportunity to register and exercise their civic duty.

“The eligibility criteria and timeline remain unchanged.

“However, starting from February 2026, the registration process will adopt a rotational system within Registration Areas, making it more accessible and convenient for people to participate.”

According to Salami, INEC officials are prepared to ensure a smooth and transparent process.

He noted that turnout had been relatively low so far, saying the 2nd phase of CVR will run until April 2026.

The commissioner cautioned that INEC would not tolerate any form of disruption, violence, or unruly behaviour at registration centres.

“Security agencies have been alerted to ensure a peaceful and orderly process.

“We will ensure that the registration process is conducted in a safe and secure environment for all participants,” Salami said.

The second phase of the CVR  will end on April 17 while the third phase, scheduled to begin May 4 ,will be rounded off Aug.17, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
