Islamic Calendar: Ogun Jigawa, Declare Friday As Work Free Day

The Osun State Government and Jigawa State Government on Wednesday have declared Friday, June 27, 2025, a public holiday across the states, reports BusinessTodayNG.

The Osun State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Rasheed Aderibigbe, who made this disclosure  in an official statement on behalf the state government on Thursday, 26 June, 225 said that the holiday is in commemoration of Hijrah 1447AH.

The statement reads in part, “While extending warm greetings to the Muslim faithful across the state, Governor Adeleke urged residents to use the occasion to pray for sustained peace, progress, and prosperity in Osun State and Nigeria at large.

“The Governor also called on all citizens to celebrate the Islamic New Year in peace and harmony, encouraging everyone to shun rancor and embrace unity, which he described as the foundation for sustainable development.

“Let us use this spiritual occasion to reflect on the values of love, sacrifice, and mutual respect that the Hijrah embodies,” the statement concluded.

The Supreme Court announced the decision after the Crescent Sighting Committee verified credible testimonies confirming the moon’s sighting.

In a related development, Jigawa Governor has also declared Friday, June 27, 2025, a work-free day in the state in observance of the new Islamic Year 1447 AH.

This is contained in a statement signed by The State Head of the Civil Service, Muhammad K. Dagaceri, made this disclosure in a press statement made available to newsmen on Thursday, 26 June through his spokesperson,  Isma’il Ibrahim.

According to Dagaceri, the break will allow the working class and the wider community to partake in the celebrations marking the Islamic New Year.

The State head of Service, also in the statement, encouraged all workers and citizens of  of  the state to engage in prayers for sustained peace and prosperity throughout the state.

The state government also urged the populace to reflect deeply on and live in accordance with the teachings of Islam, as well as the practices of the Prophet Muhammad, SAW.

The statement added that said it was paramount for all citizens to remain law-abiding and refrain from any actions that could disrupt the peace and harmony in Jigawa State.

Recall that the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has officially declared Thursday, June 26, 2025, as the first day of Muharram, marking the start of the Islamic New Year 1447 AH, after the crescent moon was sighted on the evening of Wednesday, 25 June, 2025 Dhul Hijjah 29.
