Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday described the Chibok girls abduction as a scar that will remain with him till death.

The abduction of the schoolgirls sparked a global outrage, leading to the #BringBackOurGirls campaign.

Looking back to the 2014 abduction of 276 schoolgirls from Chibok in Borno State, Jonathan said the incident left an indelible mark and will continue to haunt him.

The former President stated this during the public presentation of ‘SCARS: Nigeria’s Journey and the Boko Haram Conundrum’, a memoir by former Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, on Friday.

He commended the former CDS, stressing that he was “a soldier who stood for truth and never played politics with security”.

“The title of this book is quite interesting. One of the major scars on my government is the Chibok Girls.

“As Bishop Kukah said, no plastic or cosmetic surgeon can remove it. It is a scar I will die with,” Jonathan added.
