Just In: Tinubu To Present Nominees For INEC Chair At Council Of State Meeting

President Bola Tinubu is expected to present nominees for consideration as the next Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)at council of states meeting presently going on in Abuja.

Recall that Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has exited as INEC Chairman, ending his 10-year tenure that cut across two administrations and three general elections.

It was gathered at the meeting, which stated around after 1: pm on Thursday, Tinubu will present three nominees for the Council’s consideration — Prof. Lai Olurede. Justice Abdullahi Mohammed Liman and Prof. Joash Amupitan.

It was also gathered that The three nominees, all legal and academic professionals, are being screened as possible successors to Yakubu.
Those present at the meeting, it was gathered, are Vice President Kashim Shettima; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN); and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Others, who were also in attendance, it was also gathered, include Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and several state governors, with some represented by their deputies.
