Following heightened level of insecurity that has impacted several parts of the state of kebbi State in the last couple of weeks, the state Government has mandated the immediate closure of all state-owned tertiary institutions, effective Saturday.

The state Commissioner of Higher Education, Alhaji Issa Tunga, issued the directive on Saturday in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.

According to Tunga, the decision follows a surge in security challenges, which has led to widespread concern across the region.

He listed the affected institutions to include the State Polytechnic, Dakingari; Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero; College of Health Sciences and Technology, Jega; and the College of Education, Argungu.

However, the commissioner clarified that the College of Nursing Sciences and Midwifery, Birnin Kebbi, is the only institution exempt from the closure order.Tunga urged the management of the affected schools to fully comply with the government’s directive and appealed to students and staff to remain calm.

The statement, signed by Ahmed Idris, Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Governor, assured the public that a new resumption date will be communicated “at the appropriate time.” The closure reflects a preemptive measure to safeguard students and staff amid the ongoing security crisis in the North-West region.
