Lafarge Ashaka Cement to complete 16MW electricity plant before December

The Lafarge Ashaka cement company in Gombe state, is set to complete its 16 mega watts power plant before the end of this year, its Managing Director, Rabiu Umar, said on Wednesday.

Speaking during an interactive session with newsmen in Gombe, Umar  explained that the project, which commenced in 2016, had so far gulped N11 billion.

He said if completed, the plant would serve the company and the host communities.

He said in terms of corporate social responsibility, the company was spending more than what was agreed as official obligation.

According to him, relationship between the company and the host communities, is cordial, adding that they have plans to replicate some of the projects executed for the communities.

Umar also said the company had discovered huge deposits of limestone and coal within the area, but the company was yet to start discussions on mining same.

The Managing Director however said Ashaka had limestone and coal in sufficient quantity which could sustain it for the next 50 years.

The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) reports that during the day, Lafarge Ashaka also rewarded it’s customers and key distributors for excellent performance in the year 2018.

NAN reports that the customers were presented with heavy trucks and an all expense paid trips to lesser hajj -Umrah and Samsung Television sets among others.
