The theme for this year’s International Albinism Awareness Day focused on #Inclusion is Strength.
This year’s theme is built on last year call for albinism-affected people to have their voices heard in all spheres of society. It emphasises the significance of including a variety of groups from both inside and outside the community for people with albinism.

International Albinism Awareness Day is observed annually on 13th June to create awareness about a genetic skin condition called Albinism, and promote the rights and regulations of Albinism on a global level.

In Lagos, the Lagos Albinism Awareness Foundation organised awareness campaign for people with Albinism in Lagos.

Speaking at the event, the founder of the foundation, Mrs Josephine Omolola, thanked the participants at the event and also admonished parents of children living with Albinism to visit qualified medical professionals such as ophthalmologists for eye treatment and dermatologists to take proper care of their skin.

Albinism is a rare genetic condition that causes the lack of pigment in skin, hair, and eyes, sometimes accompanied by visual impairment. Different types of albinism are caused by various gene mutations.

According to Albino Foundation of Nigeria there are about two million Nigerian albinos which, therefore, make them one of the largest blocks among the entire population of an estimated twenty nine million citizens with disabilities

While the National Organization for Albinism and Hypopigmentation, about 1 in 28,000 to 20,000 people in the United States have a form of albinism.

The event feature, medical checkup, games,  and craft work etc.
