Lagos LG Polls: APC Clears chairmanship, Councillorship Seats As LASIEC Begins Results Release

As the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) commenced announcing the results the Local government elections held across the state’s 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas(LCDAs) on Saturday July, 12, 2025, the ruling All Progressive Party(APC) with the All Progressives Congress (APC) seems to be coasting home to victory, reports Business Today NG.

The party has as emerged as a force in both chairmanship and councillorship contests.
Recall that BusinessToday reports that despite early indications of voter apathy, turnout improved steadily throughout the day, with many residents, particularly APC supporters, flocking to the polls to cast their votes in favour of the incumbents and newcomers.
The council polls held across the 13,325 polling units in the state, were marred by low voter turnout It was gathered that a total of 57 Chairmanship and Vice Chairmanship positions and 376 Councillorship seats were contested.
Out of 19 registered political parties, 15 fielded candidates in the polls. APC was the only party to contest every available seat, followed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which contested in 45 councils and 259 wards. The Labour Party (LP) fielded candidates in 22 LGAs and 130 wards, while other parties such as ZLP, AAC, AA, and YPP fielded fewer candidates.
LASIEC, has declared Senior Comrade Lasisi Ayinde Akinsanya, Chairman of Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area, LCDA, the winner of the 2025 local government elections.
Akinsanya, who contested under the platform of APC, secured a commanding victory with 14,488 votes, defeating all opponents and securing a second term in office.
The APC candidate emerged as winner in key areas such as Igando, Akesan, Egan, Ijegun, and Abaranje.
LASIEC officials confirmed that Akinsanya emerged victorious in every polling unit across the LCDA.
Immediately after this, Business Today NG gathered that party supporters stormed the streets across the LCDA jubilating on the victory of their candidate with supporters flooding the streets to celebrate the APC’s triumph.
While hailing the outcome of the vote which tilted into their favour, Community leaders and residents, said the development showed that people have strong confidence in the ability of Akinsanya’s grassroots development.
In his acceptance speech, Akinsanya expressed deep gratitude to the electorate, vowing to consolidate the progress made during his first term.
“This victory is for the people of Igando-Ikotun. I deeply appreciate the trust and support shown to me once again. I promise to redouble our efforts to deliver even more impactful projects and inclusive governance,” he said.
LASIEC also declared Taiwo Oyekan, candidate of APC, as the winner of the Lagos Island Local Government chairmanship election.
Announcing the results, the Returning Officer, Mr Balogun Ahmed Abiodun, confirmed that Oyekan secured a total of 28,385 votes, defeating Mr Ajibade Musiliu Olusegun of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who polled 1,271 votes.
Other party results are as follows:
Action Alliance (AA) – 77 votes
African Action Congress (AAC) – 55 votes
Youth Party (YP) – 186 votes
Young Progressives Party (YPP) – 21 votes
Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) – 30 votes
With this outcome, Oyekan has been duly returned elected to serve another term as Executive Chairman of Lagos Island Local Government.
The state electoral body also declared the Executive Chairman of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area, Otunba Kehinde Almaroof-Oloyede, the winner of the elections held across the community 2025 Lagos Local Government Election held on Saturday, July 12.
The State LASIEC, Returning Officer for the council, Joseph Olorode, announced the results on Sunday, 13 July, 2025 confirming that Almaroof-Oloyede, who contested under the umbrella of APC, polled 64,300 votes to secure victory.
According, APC’s candidate closest rival, Ridwan Akinbiyi of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had 3,247 votes, while the Young Progressive Party, YPP, candidate polled 156 votes.
With this development, APC candidate has been returned elected and will continue in office for another term, following a landslide win.
