Lagos State Pays N1.18bn Accrued Pension Rights To 279 Retirees

The Lagos State Government at the 68th Retirement Benefit Bond Certificate presentation ceremony at Alausa Ikeja, on Tuesday 29th October, 2019 paid accrued pension rights of #1,181,367,349.39k into the Retirement Savings Accounts of 279 retirees, who have served meritoriously in the State.

A statement by the Public Affairs Officer, Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC), Mrs. Adetokunbo Eko, stated that the Director-General of Lagos State Pension Commission, Mrs. Folashade Onanuga in her welcome address at the occasion stated that the administration of H.E Governor Babajide Sanwoolu is paying great attention to the pensioners in the State.

She assured the retirees of the State Government’s interest in their wellbeing in old age and stated that the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Establishment, Trainings and Pensions, Mrs. Ajibola Ponnle severally defended issues relating to pensioners at the State Executive meetings, She confirmed that the issue of backlog had received due consideration and that very soon additional fund would be releasein tranches.

Some of the excited retirees at the ceremony commended the State Government, the leadership of Lagos State Pension Commission and its workforce for their transparency, diligence and commitment to duty. A retiree, Bisiriyu, stated that the staff and the commission are a rare breed of public servants who will not accept gratification no matter how hard you try to appreciate their good work.

Atansuyi, another retiree also commended the Commission for being very disciplined and not showing favoritism in pension payment. He applauded the Commission for sticking firmly to the principle of First to Retire, First to be paid and not allowing undue influence from any quarters.

Onanuga advised retirees on the need to eat right, rest well and most importantly be prudent with their finances.
