A 53 year-old man named Roy Lee Ward, who was convicted of 2001 rape and murder of teenage girl, was on Friday executed by lethal injection in Indiana, United States of America. The execution was carried out at midnight(0500GMT) at a state prison in Michigan City, in Indiana.
The Indiana Correction Department, which confirmed the development on Friday, said Ward was sentenced to death in 2002 for the murder of 15 year- old Stacy at her home in the town of Dale.

Payne was stabbed repeatedly and died of her injuries several hours after the attack.
Ward was arrested at the scene of the incident while still holding the knife. His last meal before his execution included a hamburger, a steak melt, fries, shrimp and bread sticks.
Ward was the third person to be put to death since the state resumed execution last year after a 15 years in limbo because of the difficulties in getting the lethal drugs used in them.
