BY SUNDAY SAMUEL—The Nigerian Army, with air support from the Nigerian Air Force, has rescued Mrs. Amina Abubakar weeks after she was abducted by bandits alongside her husband, the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information.

The rescue comes days after the retired Major General passed away while still in the custody of the kidnappers. He has since been buried.

According to a statement released on Monday by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the breakthrough followed intensified search-and-rescue operations conducted by troops of Operation FASAN YAMMA.

Military officials disclosed that advancing troops made contact with the bandits at Tunga Village during a sustained offensive aimed at mounting pressure on the criminal elements.

In an attempt to escape the overwhelming military pressure, the bandits shot Mrs. Abubakar before abandoning her at the scene and fleeing.

Following her recovery, Mrs. Abubakar was immediately evacuated to a military hospital. The statement noted that she is currently receiving medical attention and is responding to treatment.

The leadership of the Armed Forces of Nigeria reiterated its commitment to ensuring her full recovery and confirmed that the military is providing all necessary support to the grieving family during this difficult period.

The military also vowed to maintain its momentum against criminal networks, stating that troops will continue ongoing operations to track down and neutralize the perpetrators while intensifying efforts to rid affected communities of terrorists in Katsina State and across the nation.
