Popular Nigerian television host, Morayo Afolabi-Brown, has finally opened up about her struggle with depression and suicidal thoughts that made her to walk on the express, hoping that she would get knock down and die.
Brown, who recently resigned as host of TVC’s Your View after 12 years on the job, made this disclosure during an interview with Chude
While explaining that that she became depressed because she felt stuck in her job, Brown disclosed that she had long harboured thoughts of quitting and moving to the next level, but did not know how to go about it until last year, when she began to gain clarity.
According to her, it got to a point that the depression worsened and to commit suicide cropped up in her mind.
“I was depressed. At a point, I was suicidal. I walked on the express, hoping a car would hit me. It was that bad.
“It was when we [TVC] were ten years that I knew that it was time [for me] to go to the next thing. I have been harbouring that thought for a while but I didn’t know how to go about it. But last year, I got that light-bulb moment,” she explained.
Afolabi-Brown officially stopped to be a member of staff of the media platform from Thursday, August 29, 2025.
This is coming after it was rumoured that she had tendered her resignation letter to the management due to boardroom politics.
However, TVC Communications did not state this as this reason why the Managing Director of TVC Entertainment is leaving its payroll.
It was explained that she decided to step aside to concentrate on her “long-held passion project,” asking members of the public to accord her “the same respect and support she has earned over the years as she embarks on this new journey.”
The company wished Mrs Afolabi-Brown, who spent about 12 years with the organisation, success in her future endeavours.
“TVC Communications, owner of TVC News, TVC Entertainment, Max FM, Adaba FM, and Yanga FM would like to confirm that Morayo Afolabi-Brown, MD TVC Entertainment and host of our flagship all-women’s TV show, Your View, has formally tendered her resignation from TVC Communications.
“Her last working day will be Thursday, 29th August, 2025.
“Morayo’s decision to step down after 12 remarkable years as host of Your View is driven by her desire to pursue a long-held passion project that she has nurtured over time. We celebrate her for the incredible impact she has made, not only on Your View, but also to millions of viewers across Nigeria and beyond.
“Morayo will be dearly missed, however, the show remains strong and will continue to deliver the quality and relevance our audience has come to expect.
“We thank Morayo for her years of service, impact and inspiration and we wish her the very best in this new and exciting chapter. We are confident that her legacy at TVC Communications will endure, and she will always remain a cherished member of the TVC family.
“We ask that the public and media continue to accord Morayo the same respect and support she has earned over the years as she embarks on this new journey,” the statement read.
