This is indeed not best of times for former Ogun State Governor and Chieftain of All Progresive Congress (APC) Gbenga Daniel as the state chapter handed him an indefinite suspension over alleged anti-party conduct.
Daniel was suspended alongside Honourable Kunle Folarin on similar allegation.
The decision to suspend the duo endorsed by the State Working Committee, SWC, under the leadership of Chief Yemi Sanusi, followed disciplinary proceedings initiated by Ward 4 and Ward 6 of Sagamu Local Government.
The decision was taken during meeting on August 19, 2025 with 16 members in attendance, the SWC reviewed reports from the ward-level committees, which accused the two politicians of misconduct and attempts to pressure party members into withdrawing petitions filed against them.
The suspension was announced in a statement by the Director of Publicity of the APC in the state, Nuberu Olufemi, and made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, the state capital, on Tuesday, August 20, 2025
According Olufemi the duo of Daniel and Folarin were suspended by their wards, which were Ward 4 and Ward 6, in the Sagamu local government area of the state. The move followed their failure to appear before a disciplinary committee, which was set up to review the complaints against them.
The statement reads in part: “In exercise of its powers, the State Working Committee of the APC in Ogun State affirms the suspension of Senator Gbenga Daniel and Hon. Kunle Folarin by their respective wards.” The statement further explained that the report of the disciplinary committee was reviewed by the APC state working committee, led by Chief Yemi Sanusi, on Tuesday, August 19. According to the party, the suspension of the former governor was in line with due process, as It emphasised the importance of upholding discipline and procedures, adding that the suspension would give room for further review and the outcome of the internal processes.
This came days after Daniel accused Governor Dapo Abiodun of allegedly ordering the demolition of his residence and hotels in the Sagamu area of the state. The Ogun state government has ordered the demolition of his private residence, the Asoludero Court, Conference Hotels Limited, and the hotel annexe in Sagamu. Senator Daniel stated that the governor’s order was conveyed through notices of contravention, quit, and threat of demolition, which were to be posted on the properties within the next three days, and were pasted on the properties on Friday, August 8, 2025.
