The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has acknowledged the quality of service (QoS) challenges currently affecting telecommunications services in Abuja, which have impacted subscribers’ overall experience.

In response, the Commission said is working closely with key stakeholders and licensed operators to resolve the disruptions.

The service challenges have been largely linked to interruptions in diesel supply affecting IHS Nigeria Limited, the colocation provider responsible for powering base stations operated by Airtel and MTN in the affected areas.

According to the NCC, the disruptions stem from the activities of the National Oil and Gas Suppliers Association (NOGASA), which led to a halt in diesel deliveries to critical telecommunications sites, resulting in service outages across parts of the Federal Capital Territory.

The Commission emphasized that a reliable power supply is essential to maintaining optimal telecommunications services.

The NCC is actively engaging relevant stakeholders to address the diesel supply constraints and to explore sustainable solutions that will prevent a recurrence. It has called on all parties involved to collaborate in removing the supply bottlenecks impacting vital telecommunications infrastructure and to restore services as quickly as possible.

Reaffirming its mandate, the Commission reiterated its commitment to creating a conducive environment for the growth and sustainability of Nigeria’s telecommunications sector. It is facilitating ongoing dialogue between affected service providers and other stakeholders to ensure a swift resolution of the power supply challenges.

The NCC assured the public that it is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as efforts to fully restore services in Abuja progress. It also thanked subscribers for their patience and understanding, while reaffirming its commitment to delivering reliable, high-quality telecommunications services nationwide.
