Under the ongoing Assisted Voluntary Return initiative, the Kano Operations Office of the National Emergency Management Agency on Tuesday confirmed receiving 178 Nigerian returnees from Niamey, Niger Republic.

The returnees arrived on November 24, 2025 at about 11:30am at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport aboard an Asky Airlines flight.

The Kano NEMA made this disclosure on it’s official Facebook handle on Tuesday.

According to the agency, officials from the Nigerian Immigration Service conducted biometric registration and proper documentation of all returnees to ensure accurate records and facilitate smooth reintegration into the country.

“Upon arrival, officials from the Nigerian Immigration Service promptly conducted biometric registration and proper documentation of all the returnees to ensure accurate records and smooth reintegration into the country,” the statement said.

Following the completion of documentation at the airport, the returnees were taken to the Nigeria Immigration Service Training School for profiling by relevant stakeholders, which was concluded on Tuesday.

The statement highlighted the coordinated efforts of NEMA, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), and other partners.

It said, “The collaborative efforts of NEMA, NCFRMI, IOM, NRCS and other key stakeholders ensured that the entire reception process was well-organized, efficient, and centered on the dignity and welfare of all returnees.”

NEMA provided a demographic breakdown of the returnees: 94 male adults, 33 male children, 32 female adults, and 19 female children.
The agency said the return initiative is part of a wider effort in collaboration with the Federal Government of Nigeria to support voluntary repatriation and reintegration of Nigerians abroad.
