BY NKECHI NAECHE—ESEZOBOR—The Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA), the umbrella body for all insurance and reinsurance companies in Nigeria, has expressed deep sorrow over the crash of a Nigerian Air Force aircraft near Igbokoda, Ondo State, on Monday, October 5, 2026.
The Association reaffirmed the industry’s commitment to the prompt settlement of valid claims connected to the incident.
The association disclosed this in a statement that it has directed its members to prioritise and expedite such claims so that the families of the 32 personnel who died receive the benefits due to them without administrative delay.
Conveying the collective sympathy of the industry, the NIA Chairman stated: that “Words are insufficient to convey the profound grief felt across our industry following this tragedy. The loss of 32 patriotic military officers, dedicated airmen, and flight crew members represents an irreparable blow to our national security framework and a heartbreaking moment for our nation.
“These courageous individuals devoted their lives to safeguarding the sovereignty, peace, and security of our homeland. Their service and ultimate sacrifice will remain permanently etched in our national memory. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families facing this unimaginable loss.”
In solidarity with the Federal Government and military leadership, Mrs. Nwachukwu who also doubles as Managing Director/CEO of REX Insurance Limited, affirmed the industry’s commitment to providing financial stability and prompt relief to the beneficiaries and affected institutions.
“The Nigerian Insurance Industry stands fully prepared to honour its obligations,” Mrs. Nwachukwu added. “Member companies have been directed to prioritize, expedite, and seamlessly process all valid claims connected to this incident, ensuring that the families of our fallen heroes receive the full financial support and benefits to which they are entitled without administrative delay.”
The Association prays for divine strength and comfort for the grieving families and for the peaceful repose of the departed heroes.
